Fancy Joining in? new students looking to joinjn the club...

Hello and welcome to the club website, this is a little bit of information about what we do at Leeds University Cycling Club. There are many aspects to the club, whether it's racing, exploring, having fun, road, MTB, CX or DownHill you are into, we offer a club that caters for all.

RACING:You are lucky enough to be a part of the Cycling Clubs' 10th year, in this time we have gathered an impressive tally of medals and successful riders in both university competitions, and national series events, with riders going on to race in International events and for professional teams in France. We are always looking for talented riders to represent the university.

Club rides and socials:But it isn't all about racing, we also have a very active part of the club which meets up for rides on a regular basis, either on weekly club rides or just arranging them through the forum. That along with regular socials allows all members of the club to keep in touch and socialise on a regular basis.

Trips:Last year we ran trips to Glentress, Innerleithen, Coed-e-Brenin, as well as weekends away to race events, and the Manchester velodrome. As well as day trips away to easily accessible trail centres

What we offer: We are proud to be sponsored by Stif Mountain Bikes of Headingly and Torq fitness, the latter gives members access to reduced price energy products and we place regular orders with them. We also place orders for University kit early on in the year, and in the second semester. We are funded in part by Leeds University Union and membership money, this allows us to heavily subsidise almost everything we do. We have an excellent turn out to our regular club rides, with enough riders to split into different ability groups. Road rides often go out for rides of 40-70mi where as MTB rides often head out to the local trails through Meanwood which are 5 minutes out of Leeds.

Becoming a member: We will have a stall at the freshers fair where you can join up and meet some of the current members. More information about this to follow as term begins...

The Committee: the committee work for the members of the club to organise most of the events that we do such as races and trips away. For the most part this is behind the scenes work, but you also have the opportunity to influence what goes on through the forum and at committee meetings. Check out the committee section of the website to find out all about us.

RESULT HEADLINES

Two Individual Silvers at BUSA HC: Individual men and womens silver at Curbar

Yet another successfull Hill Climb with Henry King and Mary Ferrier Winning silver at this years event. Another great turnout and some fantastic times were achieved on the climb.

Team SILVER in BUSA Team Time Trial: Leeds 'A' team bring home the silverwear!

We entered two teams into this years BUSA 3up TTT that took place in Ayelsbury. The Leeds A team (Schubert, Tunnicliffe & Salmon) were seeded top riders and had a long wait before they could crack on with the course. The 50km course involved some tricky corners and high speed straights, both teams would have to work well together to get the best times.

The B Team (Adshead, King & Burnley) set off shortly before the A team but an unfortunate puncture 1.5mi in, caused a delay on the first lap as they organised a wheel swap from HQ. Having never ridden together before the team powered on to finnish with a respectable time all things considered.

The A team set off shortly afterwards with Tony Salmon, who is more familiar with mud than tarmac making up their three riders, with high expectations after last years Team Gold they pulled out an amazing performance, to come second place after Southampton and 2mins clear of 3rd place.

Congratulations to everyone who entered, and a special thanks to Ros Clitheroe who helped get the Leeds Boys organised!

Anthony Salmon, Lee Tunnicliffe & Jon Schubert BUSA TTT medal winners

Team GOLD and individual BRONZE for Leeds!: Team goes from strength to strength as gold medal is defended in this years BUSA MTB.

3 downhillers and 12 xc club members took the long rider up to Scotland for the biggest and most prestigious event on the BUSA Cycling calendar. With over 400 students attending the pressure was on for Leeds to perform and retain their Team Gold Title. The champs race featured 4 laps of a course filled with tricky descents and gruelling fireroad climbs, the 4 strong champs team took on the challenge. Salmon, Richardson, Burnett and Wright hammered it off the start line, unfortunately Captain John Richardson had a crash early on pulling him out of the race, putting yet more pressure on the 3 remaining racers to perform - there was no room for errors now.

4 laps later and Salmon crossed the finish line to take 3rd place in a sensational overtaking manoeuvre much to the amazement of the on looking crowd, followed by Tim Burnett in 6th and Dave Wright battling on to a top 20 position

The xc sport race took place shortly before the champs with Leeds Fielding 8 riders. Stephen Adshead crossed the line first out of the Leeds riders to take 7th place. Followed seconds later by Chris Dyson and Daniel McNally.

The Downhill Champs that weekend saw 3 Leeds Boys, Alistar Mackenzie, Rupert Parker and Henry Stam take on what is thought to be one of the most technical DH courses in the UK with Henry Stam getting a top 50 result.

Conratulations to all who made the trip.
